Lumbar pain is one of the most common human diseases that most adults experience once in their lifetime. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using hot water buckets in relieving pain in patients with acute low back pain.

Methods: This clinical trial study was performed on patients aged 20 to 50 years. In this study, 60 patients with acute lower back pain were selected by simple sampling method. Two of them were excluded from our study because of discontinuation of treatment. Finally, the test was performed on 58 patients who were randomly assigned to receive routine (naproxen) and control (naproxen) in combination with routine treatment (naproxen).

All patients were evaluated and recorded at the first, third, eighth and fifteenth days, according to the McGill Pain Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS17 software, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and chi-square at a significant level of P <0.05.

Results: In this study, 52% of patients were female and 48% were male with an average age of 34 years. The findings indicated that the intensity of pain in the 15th day of the study compared to the 7th and 3rd days in the hot-bucket group was significantly lower than the control group (P <0.02). The mean total pain score for the first day and the fifteenth day of the intervention in the intervention group was 12/70 and 0,75 and in the control group 12,69 and 5/58.

Conclusion: The results of this study show that continuous use of warm water bubble with analgesics compared with taking analgesics alone can make pain relief in patients suffering from acute low back pain.
